Shapes in Nature - online exhibition project
I have always wanted to improve my drawing skills and during the COVID lockdown, I connected with many people online who shared their passion for nature journaling. I found it amazing because there was no pressure; it was all about learning to draw what you see and observing the world around you. I bought my first journal sketchbook and some graphite pencils, and I started my journey.
After a year of self-learning, I joined a Botanical Art Group, which gave me the opportunity to share my drawings with others. It was challenging at first, but I knew I had to start somewhere. Two years later, I displayed two small pen and ink drawings at the group exhibition on our student wall, and it felt great to be a part of it.
An opportunity arose for me to pursue a Diploma of Visual Arts online. This meant I could balance my home responsibilities while studying for 12 months. I chose Drawing and Painting as my focus. Although there were 15 modules to complete and it was a tough journey, I absolutely loved it. I used materials that I already had on hand, such as graphite, pen and ink, and watercolour. I learned a lot and this experience has given me a strong foundation to continue exploring my art.
